Do you know where your money lives right now? Do you ever panic when friends start talking about finances because you feel like you can't contribute? Do you avoid thinking about money because it's not your job in your relationship?

It makes total sense for a couple to divide tasks amongst themselves. But while one partner may be in charge of the couple’s investments, that doesn’t mean the other should be left totally in the dark! When you’re absent from the financial plan you invite risk to the table.

The only consistent thing in life is change. Relationships can shift, people can get sick. It’s more than possible that you’ll one day be in a position where you’re managing money alone. So, the kindest thing you can do for yourself now is become informed so you’re not lost later.

This doesn’t mean you need to take over the money management if that’s always been your partner’s job. It just means it’s time to make a team strategy! Both parties should know where the accounts are, who the advisor is, and what the plan is. This isn’t distrust, it’s just having a really good backup plan.

If your partner is the one who handles the money, there’s no time like the present to get involved. Ask questions, have a look at statements, and maybe tag along for a meeting or two. Information is everything, even in relationships!

Do you feel like you’re not good with numbers? You’re definitely not alone! Many of us have been carrying that story around for a long time.

It’s easy to think financial topics aren’t for us, and back away from conversations about money. But what if you were to welcome them instead?

Here’s what I’d love to offer: Building wealth is not about math! It’s about spending a little less, and investing a little more. Protecting what you have and asking good questions. And most importantly, staying consistent!

You make so many decisions every day that have more to do with money than you think. Scheduling, budgeting, relationships, purchases - there are monetary choices at every turn in daily life! You do have financial intelligence, you’re just not used to calling it that.

The math part of the equation is for your financial advisor. Your job is just to show up, ask questions, and trust yourself!

Is there something you’ve been putting on the back burner? It’s easy to avoid your to-do list at the end of a busy week. But there’s one thing you really shouldn’t be putting off!

When it comes to planning your finances, it’s common to think you’ll get to it later. Later feels like a safe place to put things! It’s easy to think there’s some future version of ourselves that will have the space and energy to have the tough conversations and make the big decisions. And that future self is cute - but they’re not real.

You need to think about money now. Every year you’ve delayed, is a year you’ve missed out on compounding your investments. Time in the market is something that money can’t buy you after the fact.

It’s important to remember, a plan does NOT have to be perfect. You just need a starting point!

Maybe there’s a reason this video popped up for you. Use this opportunity to take that first step. Figure out your finances first, and then enjoy your weekend!

The potential of a recession has been a trending topic lately. I made a video recently about the ‘soft landing’ central banks were trying to achieve by slowing the economy down, without letting it crash completely.

We have seen the economy slow, and there’s been no major crash. So does this mean the soft landing was successful? Well, this is where things get a little complicated.

While we’re not in a clear recession, we also haven’t recovered. This kind of climate impacts people’s confidence, emotions, and choices when it comes to money. When things feel uncertain, it’s natural to want to take a step back, make snap decisions, or change financial plans that once felt very secure.

Over time, this is how a recession drift occurs. As more people get nervous and pull back, the economy responds. So, what’s the takeaway? Long term success isn’t about reacting to the headlines, it’s all about staying intentional despite the uncertainty. Your portfolio and the economy will thank you!

Remember, recession drift isn’t about the event, it’s all about the reaction.

Do you know your financial ABCs? C stands for correlation. This concept can also apply to your day to day life!

In the world of finance, correlation is how different investments move in relation to one another. The importance of correlation is especially relevant when looking for diversification in a portfolio. If all your investments move together, you’ll need more diversity!

You can find correlations in life as well, in regards to work, family, health, education, and hobbies. Similar to a portfolio, it’s important not to tie all your happiness to one thing! Setbacks are bound to happen, but if you understand the correlations in your life, they don’t have to define you. Finding balance is the key to resilience!

Talk to your financial advisor about correlation. The concept can help you create a stronger wealth plan!

In the ABCs of investing foundations, B stands for beta. At its core, beta is how much an investment moves when markets move. When the markets go up, do you benefit? When they drop, how hard do you feel it?

We don’t all react to life’s ebbs and flows in the same way, and neither do investments! So what does beta mean for your portfolio? You can’t control the market, but you can pick and choose how much exposure you want.

In both investing and in life, it’s important to recognize what’s outside of your control. While volatility is part of growth, it is important to understand your own risk capacity. This shows up in market cycles but also in career decisions, parenting and caregiving, and all major life transitions. Risk isn’t just about what happens to you, but how prepared you are for surprises and changes!

Good living and good investing isn’t about avoiding movement. It’s about choosing the level of movement you can live with. Talk to your advisor about how to incorporate beta to make the most of your portfolio!

Alpha is one of the building blocks of investing. Simply put, it’s the value added beyond the market. It’s not about taking more risk - it’s about making thoughtful decisions over time.

In investing, alpha is the difference between where the market is at, and where you’re at. But alpha isn’t just an investing concept, it’s something we can consider in every aspect of our lives!

In our day to day, the concept of alpha shows up as extra effort behind the scenes. Choosing to do the right thing, even when there’s no reward in it for you. Alpha doesn’t show up overnight - you have to create the conditions for it over time. This looks like pairing consistency with intention. Work hard, be patient, and you’re sure to see results over time!

If you haven’t talked to your advisor about alpha yet, what are you waiting for?
