📢 Interest Rate Update – June 2026
The Bank of Canada has held the overnight rate at 2.25%, with the Bank Rate at 2.5%.
Borrowing costs remain unchanged, but uncertainty in the global economy continues to influence the outlook. Ongoing geopolitical tensions and trade-related risks are contributing to higher energy prices, while the Bank remains focused on preventing those pressures from leading to broader inflation.
Inflation has moved higher in recent months, largely due to energy costs, and is expected to remain near the upper end of the Bank’s target range in the near term. At the same time, economic growth has softened, creating a delicate balance between supporting the economy and maintaining price stability.
For homeowners, buyers, and those approaching renewal, today’s announcement means variable-rate mortgages remain unchanged for now, while fixed-rate pricing will continue to be influenced by bond market movements.
