Last Friday, I had the opportunity to speak with a group of Grade 10 students about financial literacy, covering topics like credit, investing, taxes, and financial goal setting.

Walking out of the classroom, I found myself reflecting on something I havent thought about in a while. Before university, I seriously considered pursuing a career in education. Ive always been passionate about helping people learn, grow, and gain confidence in areas that can have a meaningful impact on their lives.

While I didnt become a teacher, presentations like this remind me that I still get to teach every day. Whether Im working with families, business owners, or young professionals, the most rewarding part of my role is helping people better understand their options and make informed decisions about their future.

Its always an extra special bonus when I get the chance to spend time with the next generation and hopefully equip them with a few lessons I wish I had learned sooner.

A big thank you to the students and staff for having me. Financial literacy is a life skill, and Im always grateful for opportunities to be part of those conversations.

Yesterday, I attended our company Portfolio Roadshow in Markham and spend the day learning from some of the incredible investment professionals and thought leaders who help shape the portfolios we use with our clients.

One of my biggest takeaways came from the discussions around fixed income and portfolio construction. As investors, it's easy to be drawn toward growth opportunities and market headlines, but as our Chief Investment Strategist at IG, Philip Petursson reminded us: "Offence sells tickets, defence wins championships". In today's environment, having the right balance of growth and protection is critical. Fixed income continues to play an important role in providing stability, managing risk, and helping portfolios remain resilient through changing market conditions. Strong portfolio construction isn't about chasing the latest trend. It's about building a disciplined strategy that can weather both good times and challenging ones.

Another highlight of the day was hearing Adam Hassan, speak about the value of advice. He reminded us that one of the most important roles we play as advisors is helping clients navigate uncertainty. Markets will always fluctuate, headlines will always create noise, and emotions can often lead investors to make costly decisions. Many investors underperform not because of the investments themselves, but because of behaviours like buying after markets have already risen, panic selling during downturns, or frequently changing strategies based on short-term events. That's where advice truly matters. Beyond building financial plans and managing portfolios, we help clients stay focused on their long-term goals when emotions and uncertainty threaten to pull them off course. Sometimes the greatest value we provide is simply being there to offer perspective and confidence when its needed most.

Grateful for a day of learning, collaboration, and insight, and excited to bring these ideas back to the clients, families, and business owners I work with every day.

Yesterday, our team stepped away from the day-to-day and spent the day together at Huff Estates Winery for our annual business planning session.

As we look ahead to the remainder of 2026 and begin preparing for 2027, we spent time reflecting on what has gone well, identifying opportunities to improve, refining processes, and discussing how we can continue delivering an exceptional experience for the families we serve. 💡

It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day demands of running a financial planning practice. Taking the time to step back, evaluate, and intentionally plan for the future is one of the most valuable investments we can make.

A great team, meaningful conversations, lots of laughs, some excellent pizza, a glass of w**e, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement made for a pretty fantastic day. 🍕🍷

Feeling grateful to work alongside these two incredible women (Amy Taylor - IG Wealth Management and Joanne Clemits) as we continue building something special together.

Here's to a strong finish to 2026 and an exciting year ahead. 📈

Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend the Celebrating Women in Business event hosted by the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce, and what a special evening it was.

The room was filled with incredible women. Ambitious, resilient, innovative, driven, compassionate, and inspiring women from all industries and stages of their careers. Many of them are leaders I deeply admire, and many possess qualities that I strive to embody in my own professional journey every day.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing from keynote speaker Shari Hughson. She was engaging, authentic, and genuinely inspiring. One moment she had the entire room laughing with stories about Spanx, and the next she had us reflecting on the emotional realities, challenges, and opportunities that come with being a woman in business. A message that particularly resonated with me was her reminder that we are strongest when we are women supporting women. Showing up for one another. Celebrating one another's successes. Offering encouragement, mentorship, and opportunities. Being teammates rather than competitors. It's something that happens every day across our community, often without us even realizing the impact it has.

Congratulations to all of the nominees for the inaugural Pinnacle Award. Being recognized by your peers and community is an accomplishment in itself, and each nominee should be incredibly proud of the impact they have made on Kingston and beyond. I was also proud to be there supporting a colleague, mentor, and friend Tracey Greenwood, who was among those nominated.

As a young woman building a career in business, evenings like this remind me how important community is. There is something incredibly powerful about being in a room full of women who have faced challenges, overcome obstacles, built successful businesses and careers, and are willing to share their stories and experiences with others.

I left feeling inspired, encouraged, and grateful to be part of such a supportive and empowering business community.

Here's to continuing to lift each other up, open doors for one another, and celebrate the incredible women who make Kingston such a strong place to live and work.
