📊 Feeling behind on your bookkeeping?

You're not alone.

Many small business owners start out doing everything themselves—and for a while, that works. But as your business grows, it gets harder to keep up with invoices, receipts, HST, payroll, and month-end reporting while also serving customers and running the business.

If you're wondering:
• Am I making money?
• Why is there never as much cash in the bank as I expected?
• Am I setting enough aside for taxes?
• Am I behind on my bookkeeping?

Let's talk.

At Limestone Ledgers, we help business owners get organized, understand their numbers, and feel more confident about the financial side of their business.

No judgment. No accounting jargon. Just practical support and clear information so you can focus on running your business.

💡Did You Know?

Mixing Personal and Business Expenses Costs You Time and Money

Every personal purchase made on a business account (or vice versa) creates extra work at bookkeeping and tax time.

Keeping separate accounts:

✔️ Makes bookkeeping easier
✔️ Improves financial reporting
✔️ Helps support tax deductions
✔️ Saves money on accounting fees

One of the easiest ways to improve your financial records is simply keeping business and personal spending separate.

🚨 Self-Employed? Your tax filing deadline is June 15.

If you're self-employed, June 15 is the deadline to file your personal income tax return. Even if you don't owe anything. Even if you can't pay it yet. Even if you are missing a few things.

Here are a few consequences of putting it off:

👉 Late filing penalties if you owe tax

👉 Interest continues to accumulate on unpaid balances

👉 Delays to benefits and credits you may be entitled to receive

👉 More stress as the paperwork pile gets bigger

The good news? Filing and paying are two separate things.

Even if you can't pay the full balance right away, filing on time can help you avoid unnecessary penalties and keep your options open.

If your bookkeeping is behind, your records are disorganized, or you're feeling overwhelmed by tax season, it's okay and you don't have to deal with it alone.

A little help now is can prevent big consequences later. Let's talk solutions!

Signs it might be time to hire a bookkeeper...

✔️ You're behind on reconciliations

✔️ HST deadlines sneak up on you

✔️ Your accountant asks for reports you can't find

✔️ You have a rough idea of what's in your bank account, but not a clear picture of how your business is actually performing

✔️ You spend evenings and weekends trying to catch up on paperwork

✔️ Bookkeeping keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your to-do list

If any of these sound familiar, you're not alone.

Most small business owners didn't start their business because they love bookkeeping. They started because they're passionate about serving customers, creating something meaningful, or sharing their expertise.

Good bookkeeping isn't just about staying compliant. It's about having organized records, reliable information, and the confidence that comes from knowing where your business stands.

At Limestone Ledgers, we work with small business owners to keep their books organized, up-to-date, and ready for whatever comes next.

We currently have room to take on one or two new bookkeeping clients.

If you've been thinking about getting your bookkeeping under control, let's book a discovery meeting and discuss solutions.

📚☕ One of my favourite parts of being a bookkeeper is getting to be a customer, too.

One of the unexpected joys of running Limestone Ledgers is getting to work with amazing local businesses—and then getting to enjoy them as a customer.

Today’s chapter included coffee, books, and a client meeting in one of my favourite spots.

The numbers matter, but it’s the people behind the businesses that make this work so rewarding.

Here’s to supporting local, building community, and helping great businesses write their next chapter.

🚗 Still not tracking your mileage?

If you use your vehicle for business, mileage can be one of your biggest deductions…
but only if you’re tracking it properly.

✔️ Date
✔️ Starting & ending location
✔️ Purpose of the trip
✔️ Kilometers driven

No log = no claim. BUT mileage tracking doesn’t have to be complicated. Ask us how to set up a system that works for you!

There’s just something about summer in Kingston ☀️

The waterfront comes alive, patios fill up, boats drift through the harbour, and the whole city feels a little lighter.

It’s one of the best parts of living and working here — being part of a community that knows how to make the most of the season.

Grateful to call Kingston home 💛

Long weekend mode: ON 🇨🇦✨

Victoria Day is here — the unofficial start of summer, and a reminder that your time is better spent by the water than buried in receipts.

If your books have been sitting on the back burner, consider this your sign: you don’t have to do it all yourself.

Let a bookkeeper handle the numbers, so you can actually enjoy the season ☀️

Happy Victoria Day from Limestone Ledgers!

📅 Self-Employed Tax Reminder 💛

If you’re self-employed, your tax filing deadline is June 15th.

BUT — if you have taxes owing, CRA started charging interest after April 30th 👀

If you haven’t looked at your numbers yet:
👉 don’t panic
👉 don’t avoid it
👉 start with getting organized

Even if you can’t pay everything right away:
✔️ File on time
✔️ Know what you owe
✔️ If you think you’ll owe, making an installment payment now can help reduce interest charges

One step at a time is still progress ☕
