Okay, Kenora. Let’s get some plans on the calendar. YPN Kenora is back!

YPN Kenora brings people ages 19–35 together through casual events around town. It’s a chance to meet people, make connections and have something new to look forward to. You don’t need a fancy job title or a stack of business cards. If you’re in the age range, YPN is for you.

Creativity, culture and community come together at Turtle Island Cloth & Craft Company.

Claudine and Randy have created a welcoming store that continues to serve local quilters while expanding its selection to meet the needs of the growing Indigenous customer base. The store offers quilting fabrics, Indigenous print fabrics, beads, ribbon, jingles, fur, leather and much more. Customers can also receive support with their projects and feel part of a community.

When Claudine and Randy came to LOWBIC, our team helped guide them through the business planning, financial projections and funding process. “We appreciated the fact that LOWBIC is a part of the community, and they understood how our business could provide a needed service to the community and benefit the local economy as well.”

Planning to refresh your storefront for fall or winter? The new Seasonal Storefront Enhancement Program (SSEP) can help.

SSEP is a partnership between LOWBIC, Harbourtown BIZ and the City of Kenora. Eligible Kenora storefront and customer-facing businesses can access a LOWBIC loan of up to $4,000 at 6.5%, along with a partner-funded grant covering 50% of eligible project costs, up to $2,000. Once the approved work is completed and verified, the grant is applied directly to the LOWBIC loan.

Eligible projects may include planters, hay bales, wreaths, greenery, seasonal displays, decorative lighting, window displays and approved installation.

Applications open September 10, 2026 and will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis while funding is available.

Start with a project idea, formal quote and current storefront photos. Applicants must receive written approval before purchasing or installing anything. Itemized paid receipts and completion photos will be required once the project is complete.

This September, Community Futures organizations across Ontario are coming together to celebrate the people, businesses, partnerships and communities that make rural Ontario Strong.

This year's theme - Locally Driven, Naturally Supported - recognizes what makes Community Futures different. Local knowledge and decision making backed by a network that reaches across Ontario and Canada. Here is Kenora, LOWBIC is proud to be part of that network.
