The Bank of Canada announced today that it is holding its overnight rate at 2.25% โ meaning no change for variable-rate borrowers right now.
So, what does this actually mean for your mortgage?
๐ Variable-rate mortgage?
No immediate change as a result of todayโs announcement.
๐ Shopping for a home?
Donโt let a rate hold put your plans on hold. Your purchasing power depends on much more than just the Bank of Canada rate.
๐
Mortgage coming up for renewal?
This is a great time to start reviewing your options. You donโt need to wait until your lender sends you a renewal offer.
๐ฐ Considering a refinance?
If your goal is to consolidate higher-interest debt or improve monthly cash flow, it may be worth running the numbers.
And remember: fixed mortgage rates donโt move directly with the Bank of Canada rate. Theyโre influenced more heavily by the bond market, so fixed rates can still move even when the Bank holds.
The next Bank of Canada rate announcement is scheduled for October 28, 2026.
Wondering what todayโs decision means for your mortgage specifically?
๐ฉ Send me a DM. Iโm happy to look at the numbers and help you build a plan.
