Meet Stacie. 💙

As a university student, Stacie was living paycheque to paycheque while trying to support herself. Over time, debt became overwhelming, and she felt like she had run out of options.

Then she made one decision that changed everything: she reached out for help.

With the support of the Spergel team, Stacie entered a consumer proposal and gained something she’d been missing for a long time - a clear path forward.

In her own words:

“I could see my life coming back into order. I knew I was moving toward financial freedom.”

Today, she describes her fresh start like this:

“It feels like that looming thundercloud is gone. I’m free to rebuild what I lost years ago.”

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by debt, know that you don’t have to navigate it alone. Understanding your options is the first step towards taking back control.

Subscriptions are easy to forget about - but they can quietly eat into your budget month after month.

Take five minutes today to review what’s coming out of your account.

Ask yourself:
✔️ Do I still use it?
✔️ Is it worth the monthly cost?
✔️ Have any free trials rolled into paid plans?
✔️ Could I pause or cancel it for now?

Even cancelling one or two subscriptions can free up money for savings, paying down debt, or covering everyday expenses.

Small changes won’t solve every financial challenge, but they can be a great place to start.

💾 Save this post as a reminder to check your subscriptions this month.

And if you’re finding it difficult to keep up with monthly payments or debt, book a free, confidential consultation with one of our Licensed Insolvency Trustees to explore your options: spergel.ca/contact

Debt isn't just affecting Canadians' bank balances. It's affecting their wellbeing.

According to Spergel's 3rd Annual Debt Load & Psychological Wellbeing Study, 69% of respondents experienced moderate to extreme stress because of their debt or financial situation, with almost half describing that stress as extreme.

The research also found:

• 90% experienced constant worry about money or debt
• 93% said rising living costs pushed them deeper into debt
• 84% said overwhelming stress was the first warning sign that debt had become a problem

These findings remind us that debt isn't just a financial issue... it's one that affects people's mental health, relationships, and quality of life.

When you’re struggling with debt, it’s easy to feel like you’ve run out of options.

For Angela, that meant assuming bankruptcy was the only path forward.

But one phone call changed everything.

Sometimes the hardest step is simply reaching out and asking questions. Understanding your options doesn’t commit you to anything - it just gives you the information you need to make the best decision for your situation.

If debt has been weighing on you, know that you don’t have to figure it out alone.
