Attention First Time Home Buyers!

How do you know if you're getting a good deal on your mortgage?

The truth is if you only go to one bank there's no real way to know.

You wouldn't go out and buy The first car you see on the lot. Yet many unprepared buyers go about getting the mortgage this way.

What you should be doing is going out and getting multiple quotes from multiple banks in order to make sure you're getting offered a quality deal.

Without the comparisons you have no way of knowing.

It also gives you a fantastic bargaining tool while you're going through the mortgage process.

The second thing you need to be watching out for are hidden fees.

We're not talking about fees that you pay upfront but potential fees that you have to pay down the line if you decide to sell your home or if an unexpected event happens in your life and you need to break your mortgage.

Make sure you know what the prepayment penalties will be upfront before you sign on the dotted line.

The third thing you need to pay attention to is your ability to successfully pay off your mortgage.

Many lenders offer the ability to pay your mortgage payments on a weekly basis.

This allows you to make additional payments each year which lowers the total amount that you pay on your mortgage.

You also want to make sure that you have the ability to increase your monthly payments or make lump-sum payments.

These are incredibly useful features that can save you years off of your mortgage.

You want to make sure when you're negotiating your mortgage today you set yourself up for success in the future.

You will probably end up making more money in your job or end up with a cash windfall and you want to make sure that you have the ability to apply it to your mortgage.

To recap, you want to make sure that you find a mortgage that fits your lifestyle and that you are aware of any future fees there may be.

You want to make sure that you get multiple quotes so that you can negotiate the best possible rate.

And you want to make sure that you have the ability to pay your mortgage off sooner if you so choose.
