2021 was a really tough year for all of us.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home and continue to help our clients with mortgage financing.

We landed 16th last year for Volume in Ontario. 🎊🥂🥳

For those not in the industry, that means we did pretty darn good. 🤩

Thank you to all of our Realtor partners, past clients, and all of those who trust us enough to speak with me about their mortgages.

It was 12 years ago today that I said goodbye to my career in the trades and shook a bunch of hands on my way out.

Becoming Self Employed with ZERO experience in sales or entrepreneurship was a crazy thing for me to do. It was a battle, a real struggle mentally and financially.

Here is what I learned in those first few years starting up:

👷 Work hard every day. You’re only putting in 30% effort, even when you’re thinking that you’re really pushing hard. Focus and work harder.

✅ Write down your daily to-do list and get them all scratched off before you call it a day. Top 3 most important things to do and do them. Don't turn off or go home until those 3 things are done.

💸 Every dollar that comes in, put aside 30 cents for taxes. The death of a Sole Proprietor is usually tax arrears because nobody tells you the CRA is waiting for you come next summer. Every dollar that comes in from a sale, put aside 30% right away and don't touch it.

😴 Don’t stay up until 2 a.m. thinking that you’re “crushing it” or . Go to bed at 9 p.m., get up at 5 a.m., THEN crush it.

🏠 Separate business from family time. When you go home, go home. Don’t check your phone at 6 or 7 p.m. Turn it off and be present. Texts and emails can wait until 6 a.m.

💪 Most importantly: You can do it. The only thing that separates you from the top 2% in your industry is focus and effort. That’s it. Focus and effort. Confidence will come but Focus and Effort.
