Unfortunately, re-amortizing mortgages up to 25 or even 30 years has now become the norm. When renewing or changing lenders in 2024 or 2025 please make sure you ask about pre-payment privileges so when rates go down you can get back on track by increasing your payments (hence decreasing your amortization.

Though the Bank of Canada announced its final rate hold of 2023, the industry has changed with 10 rate hikes since March 2022

I’ve been nice not naughty this year.

All I want for Christmas is lower interest rates. And lower grocery and gas prices too if you can swing it, but really, lower mortgage rates would be the BEST. GIFT. EVER.
