The weather is cooling down, so it’s time we start talking about year-end planning.

FHSA contributions are one piece of the puzzle, but this is also the time to look at accounts like RESPs and RDSPs, RRSP-to-RRIF conversions (if you’re turning 71), and other financial decisions or deadlines that need to be addressed before year-end.

For first-time home buyers in particular, opening an FHSA is worth thinking about even if you aren’t ready to contribute the full $8,000. Your contribution room only begins accumulating once the account is open.

There’s still time to get organized, review what applies to you and make any necessary moves before 2027.
