We’re aware of recent incidents where email scammers are impersonating SGI and SGI CANADA. Unfortunately, email scams are increasingly common, and we can’t stop these emails from happening. But we can share important reminders to help keep you and your clients secure.
One of the quickest ways to confirm if an email is truly sent from SGI or SGI CANADA is to check the sender’s email address. Our emails will be sent from .sk.ca or .ca. Additionally, if the email asks for sensitive information such as personal details, passwords or banking details, you can be certain it is not us. We’ll never ask for private information via email.
If you do receive a suspicious email, don't reply — not even to unsubscribe from the mailing list. Selecting unsubscribe could confirm to the scammer that your email address is active. Instead, mark the email as spam. You can also report phishing emails to the Spam Reporting Centre (run by CRTC).
Still, we understand that it can be tough to know for sure if an email is legitimate. If you or your clients ever want to confirm whether an email is legitimate or not, call our Customer Service Centre at 1-844-TLK-2SGI (1-844-855-2744).
If you think you’ve given your personal information to someone who shouldn’t have it, immediately contact the police and take steps suggested by the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
