Participating in the Forbes Summit 2023 was an enriching and transformative experience that I recommend strongly to anyone who wish to kickstart their motivation and bring their business project to the next level.
As the CEO of Alturas Laurentia, the principal subsidiary of Canadian Laurentia, and the leader of Botswana's first LNG project, interactions with Forbes Listers and other entrepreneurs opened my eyes on the importance of setting a strong exemple to have a positive impact on society. It really helps set things in perspective in regards to the real challenge that every entrepreneur is facing, which is to create a project that will ensure sustainable growth for generations, and include all members of the community.
This new perspective greatly helped the development of our LNG project. By repositioning our proposal and adopting a more strategic approach, we are now able to attract key partners and ensure the success of this historic project for Botswana.
The Forbes Summit also allowed me to present my project to a large audience and to build valuable relationships with key players in the industry. This exposure has strengthened the credibility of Alturas Laurentia and its mother company in the Botswana business community.
In addition to the business aspect, the summit also allowed me to develop my entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The workshops, discussions, and exchanges with other participants provided me with valuable tools to carry out this ambitious project.
I am grateful to Forbes for this unique opportunity and I look forward to participating in the next summit. I am confident that the experience and knowledge gained during this event will continue to guide me in my mission to make Alturas Laurentia a leader in the gas industry and to contribute to the economic development of Botswana SADC AND AFRICA at large.

Canadian Laurentia est fière d'annoncer la venue de M. Julian Scales à titre de Directeur non-exécutif.

Né à Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, M. Scales est un ingénieur électrique agréé et inscrit à l'ordre professionnel. Il possède 40 ans d'expérience dans le domaine de l'ingénierie EHV / HV et LV, de l'exploitation minière, de l'exploration gazière, de la production d'énergie et d'applications connexes.

Scales Associates supervise l'installation de nombreuses infrastructures électriques/lignes électriques - tensions allant de 400V à 220kV - ainsi que des services de construction et des projets d'ingénierie connexes.

Julian Scales s'est spécialisé dans la fourniture de services de conseil en conception électrique et de mise en service pour diverses fermes solaires au niveau régional, ce qui a permis de produire de l'électricité à un coût nettement inférieur à celui des autorités régionales chargées de l'approvisionnement.

M. Scales a participé à l'exploration et aux aspects techniques de l'exploration du méthane de houille au Zimbabwe, puis a fondé Kalahari Energy au Botswana, la centrale électrique de 100 MW d'Orapa, la nouvelle centrale électrique de 100 MW de Mashoro et un projet d'usine de gaz naturel liquéfié en partenariat avec Canadian Laurentia au Botswana, qui devait initialement répondre à la consommation annuelle de 60 millions de litres de diesel de la mine de Jwaneng et fournir du GNL aux clients de la région.

Il est le fondateur du Kalahari Energy Group, des sociétés qui ont acquis les machines nécessaires au service des puits de gaz, permettant ainsi la création d'une nouvelle industrie dans la région de la SADC. À ce jour, il a produit plus de 100 puits de gaz, et 300 autres puits sont en cours de préparation pour une nouvelle centrale électrique et une usine de gaz naturel liquéfié.

Il a passé 13 mois à la SANAE dans l'Antarctique en tant qu'ingénieur électronicien et géomagnétiseur, avec des intérêts pour la physique atmosphérique.

Outre ses services de charter aérien régional, il a piloté un Piper Aztec de 1963 du Zimbabwe vers l'Angleterre, puis vers l'Australie, en tant qu'avion de soutien pour la course aérienne Londres-Sydney de 2001.

Canadian Laurentia is proud to announce the nomination of M. Julian Scales as non-executive chairman.

Julian Scales is a Chartered and Professionally Registered Electrical Engineer with 40 years experience which includes various EHV / HV and LV Engineering, mining, gas-exploration, power generation and related applications. Scales Associates oversees the installation of numerous electrical infrastructure / power lines – voltages ranging from 400V to 220kV along with Building Services and related engineering projects.

Julian has specialised in providing Consulting Electrical Design and Commissioning Services for various solar power farms regionally resulting in the successful production of power at a cost substantially lower that the regional supply authorities.

Mr Scales was involved in the exploration and technical aspects of Coal Bed Methane exploration in Zimbabwe – subsequently founding Botswana’s Kalahari Energy, the Orapa 100MW power station, the new Mashoro 100MW power station plus a proposed Liquified Natural Gas Plant in Botswana – initially meeting Jwaneng Mine’s annual 60 million litre diesel burn plus the supply of LNG to regional clients.

He is the founder of the Kalahari Energy Group – companies that acquired the necessary Gas well-service machinery enabling the establishment of a new industry within the SADC region. To date he has produced in excess of 100 gas wells – with a further 300 wells being prepared for a new power and Liquified Natural Gas plant.

He spent 13 months at SANAE in the Antarctic as an Electronics Engineer / Geomagnetist with interests in atmospheric physics.

Apart from providing regional air charter services, he flew a 1963 Piper Aztec from Zimbabwe to England and thereafter to Australia acting as a support aircraft for the 2001 London – Sydney Air-race
