Dr. Gül Çalışkan spoke at the Wall of Flags ceremony, reflecting:
"Standing here in front of our Wall of Flags—a symbol of the many cultures, languages, and journeys that make up our campus—I’m reminded of how deeply inclusion and diversity shape who we are as a community. I came to Canada as an international student myself, and today, as a professor, I carry that experience with me. I know how powerful it is to feel seen, welcomed, and supported, and how much it matters for students and families who arrive here hoping to build a future."
She then invited everyone to attend the two-day Building in Diversity: Promise of Home Conference on Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 22.
Today, we commemorated International Education Week with our annual Wall of Flags Ceremony — celebrating 157 international students from 38 countries around the world.
“Each year we add new flags, new faces, and new stories — the Wall of Flags is an invitation to get to know cultures you may not yet understand,” said STU alumna Pearl Gyamfi, BA ’25.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of reflection and cultural celebration!
