What happens to your pension when you leave an employer? 💼➡️🏦

A Locked-In Retirement Account (LIRA) can be an option for managing pension funds when you leave a job. Unlike a regular investment account, LIRA funds are generally locked in for retirement, with specific rules around when and how they can be accessed.

Understanding your options when leaving an employer can help you make informed decisions about your retirement savings and future income.

📌 Have questions about LIRAs or your pension options? A financial professional can help you understand what may apply to your situation.

Today in the markets.

For the first time in 3 years the US Federal reserve decided unanimously to raise rates a 1/4 percent. The increase comes with a warning as well that more increases may be on the way.

So, why the increase, inflation is increasing and things are expensive. At least that’s what we are all thinking. But the numbers and data show another story. Despite high prices at the pump consumer spending is up and people are not acting conservatively, the rate hike is a tool that is used to curb consumer spending and deflate the inflation balloon. Now the question is will it work? The short answer is YES, but it will take a bit of time for that to work its self into the system.

As for investors and those who are concerned about their portfolios, it’s a time to stay put and rebalance where possible and if you have the funds add to the things on sale, add to your TFSA, and consider contributing or topping up your RSP early.

As we get closer to the mid term elections and the possible shift in power that will not be in favour of POTUS, the rebalancing method will be the strong winner in keeping portfolio health and resilience.

This current market climate is temporary as they all are, be careful not to fall into the emotional trap and react adversely to the news. These dips are have a silver lining.
