As of 2025, the odds of being diagnosed with cancer in your lifetime is 1 in 2. Unfortunately, we all know someone who has been diagnosed with some sort of cancer, maybe even yourself included.

This is one of the top concerns I see from clients - thinking they have Life Insurance but it’s Creditor Mortgage Insurance.

Creditor Mortgage Insurance from the bank is not the same as Life Insurance for these 5 reasons ➡️

Family will not receive any of the funds, they go directly to the bank.

Coverage amount decreases but monthly premium remains the same - paying more for less.

Anyone can sell this product, they don’t have to be licensed (yikes!)

Expensive!!!

Inability to change coverage/coverage lost if you change lenders.

Last week, I renewed my rink sign at the Flesherton rink for the 26/27 season. This is my third season (ahh!!). I truly wouldn’t be able to support local sports without my clients - they really are the best out there.

It got me thinking about all the rinks I’ve been able to see across North America in my 20+ years of playing hockey & lacrosse. Each one unique with different sponsors & businesses who, even if they didn’t know it, were continuing to support local sports, athletes & community.

I feel grateful that I am able to support community sporting events now, since they have been such a pillar in my life. While I can’t support all of them (yet!), I have also been able to contribute to some other community sporting events in the past 3 years.

✨ Grand River Mustangs girls hockey
✨ Family Day skates with my girlie Matalyn ()
✨ Owen Sound minor lacrosse Father’s day tournament

Hoping to add a couple more this hockey season :) Community is so important, and the rink was (and still is) somewhere that always feels like home.

Did You Know…

If you have creditor mortgage protection through the bank, your spouse/partner is NOT the beneficiary of that policy, the bank is. This means they receive no funds should something happen to you.
