We’re excited to share that as of today we are officially a federally regulated credit union! This achievement marks a historic milestone in our evolution as a member owned cooperative, combining the local touch of your credit union with the national resources of our collective.

Your everyday experience as an Enderby & District Financial member remains the same. Banking that’s built on community, powered by cooperation, and rooted in your local brand–which is now a division of Tru Cooperative Bank (our new legal name, formerly First West Credit Union).

On this significant day, Launi Skinner, CEO of Tru Cooperative Bank shares: "Canadians shouldn’t have to choose between scale and service, or digital convenience and personalized advice that’s truly in their interest. Becoming federally regulated is about being ready for what our members need next. We can deliver the stability and sophistication Canadians expect from a leading bank, while deepening the personalized advice, local decision‑making and member‑first focus that define our cooperative.”

Throughout June, our team members were proud to celebrate Pride Month by lifting up the voices of our 2SLGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies, and raising money to support QMUNITY, a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC. Their stories, leadership, and courage shape a workplace where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

Along with celebrating diverse communities, we always stand for inclusion, equity, and the freedom to be yourself. From internal conversations to community engagement, we’re committed to building a culture where diversity flourishes.

To our colleagues who lead with authenticity and allyship: thank you. You inspire us to keep growing, listening, and showing up.

We’re proud to stand alongside BC Cancer Foundation to turn effort into impact.

Throughout May, 533 team members came together to push past their limits and move with purpose, achieving an inspiring 16,000+ hours of movement as part of the Workout to Conquer Caner! Every rep, step and stretch was powered by personal stories, resilience, and the unwavering fight to conquer cancer.

We celebrated movement and milestones together as team members crushed personal goals, stepped outside their comfort zones, and completed their first marathons! Being part of this challenge brought us together in proving that when we support one another we can accomplish anything.

Our partnership with BC Cancer Foundation represents our commitment to supporting innovative research, access to patient care, and progress toward transforming cancer treatment.

Together, we are stronger than cancer. 💙

Which of these are the signs of a scam?
A) Your friend from college texts to ask for your birthdate.
B) A colleague sends you an urgent request to pay a new invoice.
C) Your cousin calls during an emergency and needs to borrow some money.

That’s the tricky thing about scams, these experiences could all be safe—or risky. Many of the scams seen by our fraud prevention team closely resemble real life conversations. Which is why protecting your money and information means being vigilant and trusting us to help.

Whenever you receive unexpected requests, demands, opportunities or threats—or any message that makes you think, "that's not normal"—slow down before taking a next step. Preventing fraud means making safe choices, so call us to share exactly what’s happening. Our advisors are trained to ask you helpful questions and give you advice so you can keep your money and information safe.

To us, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is more than just a date on the calendar. It's a reminder of our shared responsibility to learn from history, foster an inclusive future, and honor the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities across Canada. Last week, our team members came together for "First West Wednesday," wearing orange to visibly acknowledge the Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day (September 30) intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters.” The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. Funds raised by the event, organized by the Indigenous Peoples Circle (an Employee Network Group at First West), went to support the Orange Shirt Society. https://orangeshirtday.org/

Part of our commitment to responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action includes providing free access to the "4 Seasons of Reconciliation" course for all our team members. We encourage other organizations and individuals to consider making this and other forms of learning part of their reconciliation journey. https://www.reconciliationeducation.ca/en-ca/

On this National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, we’d like to introduce you to the Indigenous Peoples Circle (IPC) at Enderby & District Financial. We believe that listening to, learning from and amplifying the voices of Indigenous people in our communities leads to greater inclusion and belonging, and we thank the IPC for sharing these words with us all:

“In today’s diverse workplace, fostering an inclusive environment is more crucial than ever. Employee Network Groups (ENGs) play a pivotal role in achieving this goal, and among these, Indigenous Employee Network Groups hold a unique and vital position.

The IPC at Enderby & District Financial strives to celebrate, uplift, and nurture culturally safe spaces. Our work sets out to prioritize and raise Indigenous voices to ensure Indigenous perspectives are always at the table. We work in compassionate, intentional, and authentic ways to create a sustainable Indigenous centered community that advances Indigenous thought leadership at all levels and greater impacts local communities, land, and people.

Our circle is self-propelled by individuals who believe in and strive for growth and change. Through thought-provoking conversations, we create and foster Indigenous relationships. We venture open-mindedly and courageously outside of our comfort zones, acting with dignity and respect. Our approach is focused on highlighting and understanding the many varied experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples.

Indigenous Employee Network Groups enrich the entire organization by promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigenization. Supporting and nurturing these groups is an investment in the future, ensuring that all team members can flourish and contribute to their fullest potential.”

This display of red shirts is a symbol of the pledge our team members make to creating an accessible and inclusive society for everyone. Today is Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion, when people across Canada come together by wearing red as a visible display of solidarity and support for people with disabilities and their families.

You don’t need another post telling you how hard it is to save for your first home – you already know how hard it is.

What you need is advice and strategies on how to get there. We have something that might help: the tools that can help you. 📝

1️⃣ The Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP)
You can lend yourself up to $35,000 tax-free (as of 2022) from your RRSP with the HBP. Two years after you withdraw, you will start a 15-year repayment period but if you have the funds available, you can start paying it off sooner.

2️⃣ Land Transfer Rebates
In BC, the land transfer tax is determined by a tax-bracket system based on the purchase price of the home and a refund is offered for properties worth $500,000 and below. You may be eligible to receive a partial or full land transfer tax refund.

3️⃣ Tax-Free First Home Savings Account (FHSA)
The FHSA is available to first-time home buyers that are Canadian residents between the age of majority (19 years in BC) and up to 71 years. You have a 15-year period to make tax-deductible contributions; as well, no taxes are paid on withdrawals made to buy an eligible home.*

4️⃣ Home Buyer’s Amount
First-time homeowners can claim up to $5,000 within one year of purchasing your home on line 31270 (which was line 369 before 2019) of your tax returns. Eligible home buyers could receive up to a $750 rebate.

--

*You are solely responsible for confirming that your FHSA, TFSA and RRSP contributions are within your allowable limits set by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). All rules and contribution limits for FHSAs are set out by CRA and applicable legislation apply. Information about FHSAs is based on what is currently available from the Canadian government and may be subject to change.

Mutual funds and other securities are offered through Aviso Wealth, a division of Aviso Financial Inc.
