This season, budgeting has been a journey of learning to appreciate what we have, making better decisions, and finding ways to create more peace in our lives.

I’ll be honest—sticking to a budget isn’t easy. Old habits are hard to break, and building new ones that last? Even harder. But when we sat down and laid out all the numbers, it became clear where changes had to be made.

One of the toughest decisions was selling our van. I’ve had my own vehicle since I was 16, so it felt like letting go of a part of my independence. But the costs—fuel for commuting, insurance, payments, and ongoing maintenance—were taking a big bite out of our finances.

We decided to sell the van and lease a smaller SUV. It has better fuel mileage, updated maintenance, new tires, and lower insurance costs. Overall, it’s a better choice for the bottom line and brings a sense of relief as we work toward financial balance.

Sometimes, the hardest decisions lead to the best outcomes.
