I know how tough its been to close down the fish farms...however,it is really nice to see the wild stock coming back so healthy ! I am pro-farm,however ,not if it negatively effects the wild populations...hopefully the fish farms can be relocated away from the main migrating routes to allow wild migration of our native fish stocks.That would be ideal.

in b.c. oyster farmers do not typically grow their own seed using raw ocean water.right now farmers rely heavily on hatcheries to grow single oyster seed for them.hatcheries will feed the seed with algae,and spend money heating water, which can be very expensive to boost seed to 2380 microns.

the final stage for growing seed is to put them in a floating upweller.when the seed reach 2000 microns they are now big enough to not float away in the larger bins.in the middle of the flupsy there is a large paddlewheel pushing water thru a centre channel,forcing the water thru each bin full of seed.the plankton they eat, in the ocean is moving past the oysters, giving them the food they need to grow quickly.this stage the seed is 2000 microns to 1/2 inch in size.

hatcheries can produce millions of swimming oyster larvae..we can buy live larvae and.. .in the silos we put crushed oyster shells where the larvae will swim and stick onto the shells and begin building their shells and grow into baby oysters! after 72 hours they can be moved into our pop bottles!oysters start out at around 300 microns in size.

growing your own baby oysters cost effectively, is a very important part of running a successful oyster farm...here we are experimenting with how small we can buy the seeds.each pop bottle has aprox. 250,000 baby oysters!at this important stage the oysters range between 300-2000 microns in size.

before the epidemic happened,many businesses were already struggling to keep the doors open.we will see many more businesses close for good.when wages are high,and margins are slim,and costs continue to rise fast,we must have compassion for those rare individuals that are continuing to make things happen,able to pivot, and make it thru this.those who have found their way thru this storm, are going to be the strong leaders of tomorrow.

sometimes in business, things happen.patners will stab you in the back,employees you counted on will leave,your customer will be unhappy with the order....and this is the life of an entreprenuer 24/7. at the end of the day we are problem solvers.we find a way.we push thru all obstacles.we work overtime and sacrifice family time so its done right...and then we do it all over again tomorrow.
