Shall we say "Been there, done that" ? 😋
At the end of the day, no matter how modern the technology is, it's all about what the real life problem it is solving. These indoor farming companies have been utilizing massive capital and technology resources trying to tackle the issues of crop losses due to pest/bacteria and drought, which might happen some where, some time. However, their business model does not address the main issues of the current business model of central large scale production and distribution network, which is exposing in daily life.
VCATIP almost felt in the trap of "fancy modern technology for indoor farming", but luckily we did a prototype and learned the lesson with a reasonable cost. Obviously our research effort and practical approach so far have saved us from this costly failure.

The vertical farming space—with companies like Bowery, AeroFarms, and AppHarvest—took huge Silicon Valley investments. But it is not thriving.
