Minimum wage in B.C. increased again on June 1, now rising to $18.25 per hour. This year's increase is tied to inflation, following the province's move to automatic annual adjustments.

For employers, it's a good reminder to review:
• Payroll rates
• Salaried employee equivalents
• Vacation pay calculations
• Pricing and budgeting for the remainder of the year

Small changes in hourly wages can have a bigger impact than expected when multiplied across a full team.

If you haven't reviewed your payroll setup recently, now is a good time to make sure everything is up to date.

📋 Confession: I’m a bit of a census nerd.

I’ve already been reading about the upcoming 2026 Census, and honestly… I find this stuff fascinating.

The census shapes so much more than people realize — everything from community funding and housing needs to healthcare, schools, infrastructure, and business planning.

As someone who works in tax and bookkeeping, I also appreciate how much good data matters. Accurate information helps governments, businesses, and communities make better decisions.

Plus there’s just something interesting about watching how communities grow and change over time.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who actually looks forward to census data 😅

Did you know… if you have celiac disease, you may be able to claim the extra cost of gluten-free food on your taxes?

The CRA allows you to claim the difference in cost between regular and gluten-free products as a medical expense.

For example:
If regular bread is $3 and gluten-free bread is $6, you can claim the $3 difference.

To do this, you’ll need:
• a note from a medical practitioner confirming the diagnosis
• your receipts
• a summary of your purchases

It does take some record keeping, but over the year it can add up.

It’s one of those things many people don’t realize and something that can make a difference later.
