Canadian CPI inflation rose while core inflation measures declined.

Coles notes: Bank of Canada will probably keep out of it for the rest of the year. No increases. No declines.

The rise in oil related inflation due to the Straight of Hormuz situation impacted consumer prices but people are spending less so that had a downward effect on core inflation numbers.

Stalemate.

Bank of Canada holds rates steady, as expected.

Questions remain on whether they rise or fall, depending on what happens with the oil prices, (caused by the issues around the Straight of Hormuz), and its impact on the cost per item of transporting goods from source to shelf: If it accelerates inflation (the costs rise), the BoC may have to raise rates to slow it down. If core inflation remains steady & low, they probably won’t.

Time will tell. For now, it’s steady as she goes.

Bank of Canada holds its overnight rate at 2.25.

Inflation at 2%

Core inflation fell to 2.5%

If the impacts of Canada adjusting to the uncertainty of the US market relationship continue prolonged, and the CUSMA deal collapses, look for the BoC to drop their rates to stimulate the Canadian economy, in my opinion.

So far, it’s “steady as she goes”.

Bank of Canada dropped its interest rate again by .25%.

More relief for people with lines of credit and variable mortgages.

Bank of Canada dropped their overnight lending rate by .25%, as predicted.

Jobless rate went up last month as firms negatively affected by US Tariffs laid people off, paused investment decisions or otherwise retracted their growth plans. But, it’s good for people who have lines of credit or variable mortgages.

Fixed rates, linked to Canadian Bond yields, have slowly started coming down as well.

Hang on to your hats. It’s going to be a bit wild before it gets better by, what I think, will be this time next year.

Anticipating a Bank of Canada rate drop tomorrow. The Canadian adjuated CPI creeped up seasonally, which makes it easier for the BoC Governor to trigger a small rate cut. Canadian Bond rates continue to drop because it’s safer to buy Canadian Bonds than US bonds today, which will also help fixed rates to ease a bit, which helps with renewals and debt consolidation.

Real estate market still a very big buyers market so my advice to you is to hold on to your home unless you have no choice but to sell.
