When I left elected politics in 2019, my hope was that Kings-Hants would continue to have a strong voice for our communities in Parliament. Six years later I couldn’t be more proud of the work that Kody Blois has done.

While my support of Mark Carney’s national campaign has kept me from campaigning with Kody as much as I would like to have in this election, I know Kody had been a tireless advocate for the people of Kings-Hants and our Parliament will be stronger with his continued presence in the House of Commons. If you haven’t voted yet, I encourage you to exercise your right to vote on Monday and to support a very hard working MP.

This note has been hard to write. Since learning of my dear friend Adele Desjardins’ passing from her sister Andree, I’ve struggled to put to print the right words.

For 22 years Adele was “my Ottawa Mom”. She was much more than an exceptional Assistant, she became my friend, and ultimately pretty much a part of my family.

Adele spent Thanksgiving, an annual summer holiday, and periodic special events in between with us in Cheverie.

My family loved her dearly. Mom and Dad will be thrilled to greet her in Heaven. Mom would be asking her how she thinks Scott is doing. Dad would be talking about the Montreal Canadiens. And Adele must at least be pondering a Bacardi Limon and Diet Pepsi.

Adele and I for many years frequently ate dinner together in Ottawa. We worked on schedules, talked about the issues of the day and we somehow derived comfort from each other. I trusted her completely.

Her judgement of people was excellent - those who condescended to her, didn’t get far with me. When I was deciding to leave public life, one of my bigger preoccupations was Adele - and what she would do. She was 76 and devoted her life to politics and service to politicians from the time of her revered father - a Quebec MNA - to Robert Stanfield, Joe Clark, Jean Charest, Lowell Murray, and me. She started her career on Parliament Hill in the office of Mr. Stanfield, and ended in mine, the perfect bookends to an exemplary employee who became an adopted Nova Scotian.

She was exceedingly loyal, occasionally cranky, always authentic, incredibly kind, smart, and remembered everything. I will miss her, and will never forget her.

18 years ago, in 2004, My friend & Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Anne McLellan, came home to the Hants Shore to visit us in Cheverie. Last evening she returned for a lovely homecoming & reunion with our family. Thanks Anne, for the lovely visit . Let’s not wait 18 years for the next one!!!! XO Scott , Max, Rose , Claire & Coco

In July 2015, 6 weeks after we met, Max proposed to me in Sitges. In November, 2021 After 2.5 years without a real holiday, much of that time cooped up with me & the our kids, I suspect that Max may, oddly enough, have wanted to choke me. He craved travel & a few days in Seville & Lisbon helped me realize just how much I had needed a break too. Thanks Maxime for putting up with my idiosyncrasies. Thanks for organizing this superb trip. Our time together, on our own, has been a brilliant reminder of how much you mean to me. 16 years after Sitges, you’re still my handsome prince. , , ,
