Random Fact Friday….do you hear the thunder? We are experiencing thundersnow, also known as a winter thunderstorm. It’s quite a rare phenomenon, snow is the main precipitation rather than rain. The intense snow tends to muffle the sound of the thunder. It is more common with lake effect snow.

Random Facts New Year’s Eve…did you know….
The first known NY celebration began about 2000 B.C. in Mesopotamia at the time of the vernal equinox. The NY starting on January 1st began around 46 B.C. when Julius Caesar developed the solar based Julian calendar. Another reason making January 1st the beginning of the new year was to honour Janus, the Roman god of beginnings who had two faces. This means he could go back to the past and move forward into the future. NYE in the Gregoria’s calendar is on Dec. 31st. Pope Gregory XIII implemented this calendar in 1582. This is the calendar we use today. Traditions in some countries include eating certain foods for good luck and sharing a midnight kiss. However you are spending your NYE, may it be safe and happy.
