The capital gains inclusion rate (inclusion rate), which is the proportion of a capital gain that is taxable, was proposed to increase to 66.67% from 50% on June 25, 2024. On January 31, 2025, the Government of Canada announced it would defer the effective date of the proposed inclusion rate increase to January 1, 2026. On March 21, 2025, the government announced that it will cancel the proposed inclusion rate increase.
