It may make sense to name your estate as the beneficiary of your registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) if you want to pay the taxes from its funds rather than another asset. Other examples of when this would be a good strategy include if you’re leaving money to a minor or someone who requires trust protection. I can talk to you more about beneficiary designations. If this interests you, please contact me.

Understanding the differences in beneficiary designations can help you plan for your loved ones.

Retiring in the next 10 years? Let’s make sure you’re ready.

As a financial advisor, here’s the process I typically follow when helping my clients prepare for a confident transition into retirement.

1. Take stock of your finances
Let’s look at your income, savings, debts and assets so we know exactly where you stand today.

2. Assess your future income
We’ll estimate how much you’ll need in retirement and when to take government benefits based on your goals.

3. Set up key accounts and estate documents
Now’s the time to review RRSPs, make sure your estate plan reflects your wishes, and set up your RRIF when the time is right.

4. Consider your lifestyle needs
How do you want to spend your time in retirement? Let’s make sure your plan supports the lifestyle you’re dreaming of.

Want help working through the details? I’m here to guide you every step of the way. Let’s talk.

Hoping to retire in the next 10 years?

The first step in getting ready is knowing where you stand. To help ensure you’re ready for the retirement you want, it’s important to review:
✅ Retirement savings (RRSPs, employer plans)
✅ Home equity and other real estate
✅ Investments, insurance, and cash accounts
✅ Debts like your mortgage or credit cards

In these next few years, could you amp up your savings and eliminate your debts?

Let’s talk about what’s realistic and how you can set your retirement timeline with confidence.

Did you know some accounts can bypass your Will?

That’s why understanding beneficiary designations is a key part of any estate strategy.

Accounts like RRSPs, TFSAs and life insurance let clients name someone to receive the funds directly. But when specific instructions or added control are needed, a Will may be the better option.

I’m here to help my clients connect the dots and plan for their estate.
