The average price of a detached home in the GTA fell by 3.1 per cent to $1.36 million in July, compared with $1.4 million a year earlier.

BMO chief economist predicts 3 more rate hikes this year but he also points out that they're unlikely to be as drastic as a 100 bps hike we saw last month rather they're more likely to be a cumulative 100 bps hike. He also states that we now have the end in sight in terms of these hikes which could mean that the hikes are quite likely to end by the end of 2022.

Now what does that mean for a home buyer?? Yes the fall and winter housing market will be good for the buyers but it also means that the qualifying rates will increase. Unless you have a pre-approval and a good rate-hold, don't plan your home purchase based on how much mortgage you can get today because come september that figure will drop. For example if you qualify for a $500k mortgage today and assuming there is a 50 bps hike in September, you're likely to qualify for $475k after that.
