I’m in support of health/wellness programs but ultimately it comes down to work/life balance and how much we are asking employees to do (typically without extra compensation btw).

Who else is in a time warp?

Remember such n such happened last year….or was it 2 years??

How about business? Does it seem like you wish you could erase the last two years (some business sectors really do) or has your business benefited by all of this (the contractor/building sector has….and recreational equipment can’t keep up to demand).

If you are in either situation and your employees have helped you weather the storm then maybe it’s time to reward them.

As we approach March Break (and more importantly March Madness as a basketball fan) taking some time to think about family...Spring...and even planning for summer draws attention to the much talked about, often pursued and rarely successful “Life Balance”. Are your employees in a healthy work/life balance? Are you...as a business owner? Is your health plan providing peace of mind? Wellness? Mental Health?

Spring cleaning could include some new ideas!!!

Recently I was chatting with a small business owner and he asked me what I did for a living. As many of you know...I’m not overly comfortable with the “benefits talk” in a social setting...but since he asked...

The conversation naturally led to what he did/didn’t do for his own expenses and/or that of his employees. The answer was....nothing! Too expensive!

I explained that at a very minimum he should set up a Health Spending Account (HSA) to use business $$$ and write it off versus using personal after tax $$$ and not be able to write it off. (Yeah yeah Accountants will say you can but the amount is very limited).

Bottom line for all you small biz owners (or people with employees and a traditional plan is “too expensive”). We should talk!!!

Mental illness has many faces. As employers we focus on productivity and profit. We spend available $$ on the physical health of our employees but neglect or overlook the need to help them manage their mental health. An Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) can cost as little as $3.50/employee/month and might just save someone's life.

Has anyone heard the saying "you don't know what you don't know"?

As I reach out to business owners the overwhelming response is either no response or the typical "we are well covered and happy with what we have". I accept those response for what they are. People (particularly business owner/managers!

If there was a compelling reason to consider change would you invest 10 minutes?

What if I told you that I find a compelling reason 9 times out of 10?

I offer a review with no cost and no obligation. I'm low pressure except that I hope if you like what I do you will consider working with me. I'll be honest and tell you to keep doing what you are doing if you are in the 10%.

What's the risk in evaluating?

Great message! What do you see? The opportunity or the roadblock? I've always asked..."why not at least consider a new way of doing things (or a new person/company/advisor to do them with). Just because it's always been "the way we do it" or "who we do it with" doesn't mean it's the best way to do it. Challenge yourself to open up your mind.

BTW - Happy Canada Day!!!
