This weekend I had the pleasure of sponsoring the 1st annual Bike Rodeo at Forest Park Elementary School! Some of the city's youngest riders were able to have their bikes inspected and adjusted so that they're all set to ride safely this summer.

One of the most impactful parts of the day was speaking with Angela, founder and momma of This local initiative in was started in memory of her 15 year old son, Branden, who tragically passed after suffering a head injury while skateboarding without a helment. makes it their mission to ensure that everyone in Elgin County who needs a helmet - gets a helmet. Free of charge, no questions asked. I watched as Angela completed dozens of "helmet checks" to ensure that all of our riders were wearing a helmet that will best protect them when they're out on the roads this summer.

Today, I was notified that I was officially elected as a Chartered Insurance Professional, and am now a member of the CIP Society's network of dedicated insurance professionals. This achievement has been years in the making - I actually started in 2007 while I was still in college! The journey was challenging, and truthfully I never thought I would finish it. When I re-entered the industry in 2022 after staying home to raise my boys, the thought of taking courses as an adult was not appealing to me. At all. In fact, I thought it was impossible... but now it's done. Receiving this designation not only elevates my professional standing among my peers - but deepens my understanding of the insurance industry. It's a testament to what can be accomplished with hard work and support from my colleagues, employer, family, and friends.

Today marks a new chapter with opportunities to apply my skills more meaningfully. Reflecting on this journey, I feel both accomplished and grateful—and relieved that my days of online proctored exams are over!

It's the May long weekend - and the unofficial start to summer! This is the perfect time to relax at home, head camping, or enjoy a backyard BBQ. Here are some tips for a safe and enjoyable time:

1. Drive Smart 🚗: Expect traffic on long weekends. Always buckle up, stay focused, and do not drive under the influence. Plan ahead, arrange for a safe ride home, and allow for extra travel time.

2. Grill Safely 🍔: Keep BBQs a safe distance from your home, supervise kids and pets, and never leave the grill unattended. Check for gas leaks if using propane.

3. Practice Fire Safety 🔥: For camping or bonfires, keep fires small and contained, and never leave them unattended. Fully extinguish them before leaving or sleeping.
