Oh my goodness, we are all so excited! We candled our very first egg today! What a miracle is growing inside. Staff and residents were absolutely gobsmacked to see the development and movement inside this tiny 8-day-old egg.

We will be candling the eggs again on Friday, May 29 at 3:00 p.m., and the community is welcome to stop by and witness the magic happening here at Heaton Place (3093 Wright Street 250-546-3353)!

Our “Hatch the Chicken” program is officially underway!

Homestead Mollie made the trip from Pritchard to deliver the incubator, equipment, and seven fertilized eggs. The eggs are now safely tucked into the incubator, where they will stay for the next 21 days as we wait for our chicks to hatch!

Throughout the process, residents will be candling the eggs to watch the chicks develop and grow. Once they hatch, the chicks will spend two weeks with us before returning home with Homestead Mollie.

The public is also welcome to stop by and visit our informational display table between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily to follow along with the chicks’ development and learn more about the hatching process (3093 Wright Street, 250-546-3353).

Be sure to check back often for updates on our exciting hatching journey!

On Sunday, we celebrated all the wonderful mothers here at Heaton Place with an afternoon filled with beautiful piano music, sweet delicacies, fresh flowers, and great company.

It was such a lovely way to honour the amazing women who have shared so much love, wisdom, and kindness throughout their lives. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!

Every Friday at Social Hour here at Heaton Place, we enjoy some form of entertainment for our residents. Today, we were lucky to welcome our very own resident’s son, Mark Ritchey!

Mark is absolutely fantastic at what he does, and we always appreciate the energy and enthusiasm he brings every time he visits us. Our residents truly love having him here.

Thank you, Glee, for raising such a wonderful human being!

We received all 12 of our hanging baskets and planters from the dedicated fundraising volunteers and students at Pleasant Valley Secondary School. We are fortunate to be part of such a supportive community. Congratulations to the graduates who worked hard to organize, sell, sort, and deliver these beautiful flowers! Our residents are very impressed with the quality.

Monty, our visiting furry friend, also enjoyed relaxing in the sun while we were unloading. We did request that he get up for a photo but he bombed it with a gigantic yawn! He's such a great guy.

***FREE Workshop! Scams are on the rise across Canada, and no community is immune, including our own. To help local seniors stay informed and protected, Heaton Place Retirement Community will be hosting a FREE special presentation on Friday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. featuring fraud prevention expert Julie Matthews.

A former journalist, Global TV Trouble Shooter, and peace officer, Julie Matthews now travels throughout Western Canada delivering engaging and informative talks on the latest scams affecting individuals of all ages. As a certified fraud examiner and board member of the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association, she brings both professional expertise and real-life insight to every presentation.

Fraud is the fastest growing crime in Canada, with increasingly sophisticated tactics targeting seniors online, over the phone, through the mail, and even at their door. While seniors are often targeted, scams are also impacting younger generations, including teens navigating today’s digital world.

This FREE presentation will help attendees recognize warning signs, understand how scams work, and learn what steps to take if they or a loved one are targeted.

Seating is limited. Please reserve your FREE spot by calling 250-546-3353 or emailing [email protected]

We’ve teamed up with the Armstrong Museum and now have some amazing local artists on permanent display in our lobby.

The photos include beautiful pencil drawings of Armstrong from way back in the day, alongside striking black-and-white photographs of Armstrong in the 1950s. It’s a real step back in time and a lovely celebration of local history and talent.

Everyone’s welcome to pop in and take a look at our new art installation.
