🚗 Ontario Drivers: 📣 Did You Know DCPD Is Now Optional?
Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD) is no longer mandatory on auto policies in Ontario, but opting out isn’t always the money-saver it seems.
🔍 What is DCPD?
DCPD covers damage to your vehicle when you’re not at fault in an accident involving another insured vehicle in Ontario.
💡 If you remove DCPD, here’s the risk:
❌ No coverage for damage to your vehicle if you’re not at fault
❌ You may have to pay out of pocket for repairs
❌ You can’t rely on the other driver’s insurance to pay you directly
❌ Potential delays and legal headaches trying to recover costs
💰 Yes, you might save a bit on premium…
…but you’re taking on significantly more financial risk if something happens.
⚖️ Bottom line:
DCPD protects your vehicle in situations where you did nothing wrong. Removing it shifts that risk back onto you.
