As a parent with children entering post-senior education years, I wish someone had sat me down and explained RESPs to me. Now it is something I do for a living- helping people navigate their financial future.

Did you know...

On top of the regular grants and bonds,

•The B.C. Government will contribute $1,200 to eligible children through the B.C. Training and Education Savings Grant (BCTESG). To be eligible the following criteria must be met:

1. The child was born in 2007 or later
2. The parent and child must be residents of British Columbia
3. The child is the beneficiary of a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) with a participating financial institution
•The earliest you can request the one-time grant is when your child turns six. After that, you may apply any day before their ninth birthday.
•If your child had their 6th birthday in 2013, 2014 or 2015, you have an extension until August 14, 2018 or the day before their ninth birthday, whichever is later, to get the grant.

That means for a one time $50.00 contribution to open an RESP, your child will receive a minimum of $10 Canada Education Savings Grant PLUS for children ages 6-9, $1200 free!

I like free money!

Helping make it a reality, that every child that qualifies for this grant receives it, gets me excited. If you are working with a financial advisor that works with a participating institution, please make sure you ask about this grant. If you are not working with an advisor, please feel free to message me and I will help set you up.

If you don't open an RESP before they turn 9, this $1200 grant is lost.

In my experience, most specialists working with people with disabilities believe someone else is talking about the financial benefits and programs available. Unfortunatlely, that is not true. Thousands of dollars of bond and grant money is being left on the table because people don't know it is there for them.

Please don't keep me a secret! if you know someone who cares for people with disabilities, has a family member who is disabled, or has a disability themselves, please share this information with them.
