Many out there are fearful and worried about the recent volatility in the investment markets but its important to remember that every year has its "ups and downs" and in fact often the year ends positive despite the large price drop through-out the year. 2020 was a prime example as the S&P 500 dropped 34% after the Covid landed in North America in Mar/April but rebounded to post a positive return of 18% by Dec 31st. Bottom line, stay invested and/or speak with your Financial planner on how to take advantage of the price drop.

I've always believed that term deposits & GIC's didn't make much sense and thanks to the crew at JustWealth for putting together this blog post to back me up :)

What do you think after reading this? Are GICs/ term deposits the worst investment ever?

If so, how come banks and credit unions often push/sell them to their clients??

GICs (Guaranteed Investment Certificates) seem to have become fashionable once again. The interest rate hiking cycle implemented by central banks globally over the past year and a bit have forced short term lending rates to shoot up dramatically, making investment in GICs or other similar securities...
