One helpful tip for when you use Visa/Interac transactions as retainers, is to have a Visa Transaction List sheet beside your terminals. Why? 1) Written confirmation of retainer provided and the client/matter no. assigned to the retainer; 2) Can be provided to your bookkeeper for easier reference of all transactions deposited to your accounts to speed up reconciliations; 3) On the rare occasion that a retainer has been deposited into the wrong matter number, you have a record of the transaction.
