INVESTING IN EQUITY (SHARES)
Two weeks ago, FNB Botswana announced a final dividend of 49 thebe per share for the year ended 30 June 2021, with the dividend to be paid on the 8th of October 2021. This means for every share owned by an investor they will receive P0.49 as their return, good news for those who hold the FNBB stock.
Often times, people think investing/buying shares is a complicated and expensive process meant for the rich or well-resourced individuals only, fortunately that is not the case, you do not have to be wealthy to buy shares rather you buy shares to create wealth for yourself, the process is cheap and easy.
But what are shares?
Shares are financial assets that represent part ownership of the company. When you buy shares, you become one of the owners of that company. Investors can buy shares from companies listed in stock exchange herein the local stock exchange being Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) or international stock exchanges such as Johannesburg Stock Exchange which is the biggest stock exchange in Africa, London Stock exchange or New York stock exchange.
Benefits of investing in shares is that you diversify your investment portfolio, receive part of company's profits in the form of dividends, they are easy to buy and sell and exposure to long term returns.
Despite this, shares are classified as high-risk investment, thus one needs to exercise caution when seeking to invest or buy shares.
