SPEDU–TICANO PARTNERSHIP TO UNLOCK BWP 250 MILLION IN BUSINESS FINANCING

SPEDU and Ticano Group (Pty) Ltd signed a Memorandum of Agreement. The strategic partnership aims to improve access to working capital and supply chain finance for businesses within the SPEDU Region, while strengthening supplier development, investment readiness and market access.

Through the partnership, Ticano will provide an indicative financing envelope of up to BWP 250 million, subject to applicable funding criteria and assessment. Eligible businesses may access financing solutions including purchase order finance, invoice discounting, contract finance, asset finance and other working capital facilities.

The programme will particularly prioritise citizen-owned, youth-owned, women-owned and disability-owned businesses, with a focus on sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, tourism, mining services, logistics, renewable energy and the green economy.

SPEDU continues to strengthen strategic partnerships that unlock investment opportunities, enhance local participation and drive sustainable economic growth across the region.

The MOA was signed by the SPEDU Caretaker Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ronnie Phuthego and Ticano Group (Pty) Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Opelo Motswagae.

SPEDU is a Company wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Botswana, under the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship whose mandate is to facilitate and coordinate economic development projects and regeneration of the SPEDU Region.

The Company promotes inward investment and trade facilitation in the Region. In particular, SPEDU is currently focusing on investment promotion, and is seeking to promote the establishment and growth of enterprises mainly in Manufacturing, Tourism, Agri-business and other business development initiatives.

SPEDU invites suitably qualified and motivated graduates to apply for a six (6) month Internship opportunity within our Manufacturing and Industry Development function, under the Strategic Projects Department.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: MANUFACTURING & INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT (6 Months) X 2

This Internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and develop professional skills in a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the Manufacturing and Industry Development Executive in:

1. Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of manufacturing and industrial development programmes.
2. Conducting research and collecting data on manufacturing and industrial sector trends.
3. Supporting project planning, coordination, and reporting activities.
4. Assisting in stakeholder engagement and client support.
5. Preparing reports, presentations, and other technical documentation.
6. Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

Bachelor's Degree in any of the following or related fields:

- Manufacturing Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial and Systems Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Industrial Technology
- Manufacturing Management
Or any other relevant qualification.

Experience

• No prior work experience is required.
• Recent graduates seeking practical workplace experience are encouraged to apply.

Additional Requirements

• Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) will be an added advantage.
• Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a professional environment.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the public relations and communications strategy of the Company as well as handle all aspects of planned publicity campaigns and public relations strategies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists in the development, implementation and roll out PR strategies and campaigns;
2. Assists in building and maintaining liaison with different Company divisions to identify their communication needs to ensure an integrated approach to promoting the SPEDU Company brand;
3. Participates in organising promotional and publicity events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours and visits to promote the services offered by SPEDU;
4. Provision of clients with information about new promotional opportunities and current public relations campaigns progress;
5. Tracks and analyses media coverage;
6. Preparation and distribution of press releases, articles, brochures and information for the website;
7. Collaborates with internal team on activities and events involving the company.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, or any other related area;

- Membership of Professional Body required (added advantage);

- A minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience in a public relations, communications, and media environment is required;
