Made in Botswana, Sold to the World: BITC Champions Global Market Access
Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) participated in the inaugural Made in BW – Sold to the World Conference and Exhibition, held in Palapye from 8–9 October 2026. Organised by AlignSure Solutions in partnership with the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), the event brought together key stakeholders to explore opportunities for strengthening local production, enhancing product competitiveness and expanding Botswana’s presence in international markets.
The conference, held on 8 October 2026, was officially opened by the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Honourable Tiroeone Ntsima, and the Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Honourable Oneetse Ramogapi. Discussions underscored the importance of collaboration, strategic partnerships and coordinated institutional support in empowering local producers to access and compete in global markets.
In his remarks, Honourable Ntsima highlighted the complementary roles of institutions such as BITC and the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) in advancing Botswana’s market access agenda. He noted that BITC plays a critical role in facilitating export development and connecting local businesses to international markets, while LEA focuses on mentoring enterprises and facilitating market access within Botswana.
The Minister further emphasised the importance of strengthening regional and international partnerships, particularly through the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and Botswana’s diplomatic missions, to identify new market opportunities, establish strategic business connections and position locally manufactured products for global success. He also called for a renewed commitment to producing locally, buying locally and continuously improving product quality. These efforts, he noted, are essential to building competitive, sustainable Botswana brands capable of meeting international standards and securing a lasting presence in global markets.
The exhibition showcased Botswana’s potential in industrial capacity and its spirit of innovation, featuring companies such as Xaloo Technologies, Delta Paints, Elite Processing, Solar Hart Botswana, Warona Mills and StrucMac. Innovative projects developed by BIUST students also demonstrated the potential of local talent, technology and research to contribute to the country’s economic transformation. As the two-day event concluded, it provided a valuable platform for dialogue on policy reform, improvements to Botswana’s business environment and practical strategies for strengthening local enterprises. More importantly, it reinforced a shared vision of transforming Botswana’s productive capacity into globally competitive products.
Through initiatives such as Made in BW – Sold to the World, BITC continues to champion the ambition of taking Botswana beyond its borders.
