As Metropolitan Life of Botswana, we are honoured to have participated in the bi-annual Private Sector Forum for Child Rights as a proud partner of UNICEF Botswana, reaffirming our commitment to advancing the wellbeing and future of children across Botswana.

At Metropolitan, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe, healthy and empowering environment. Through our partnership initiatives and community programmes during the 2025/26 financial year, we have continued to invest in impactful projects aimed at uplifting vulnerable children and empowering young girls.

Through Project SheCan, Metropolitan supported 50 young girls with sanitary pads and toiletry packs to help restore dignity and support their education journey. In addition, Tsogang Orphanage, a home caring for vulnerable children, received hampers as part of our continued outreach and support efforts. Metropolitan also sponsored 15 young girls to participate in the annual Elevate Her programme, where they are mentored by industry leaders and empowered through personal growth and leadership development opportunities.

Beyond education and empowerment, Metropolitan remains committed to improving the living conditions of communities across Botswana. In partnership with Water Utilities Corporations. Metropolitan will be supporting access to clean water by drilling a borehole for communities around the Francistown area, while also supplying eight JoJo tanks to communities in Maun, Gaborone and Palapye. These initiatives are aimed at improving access to safe water and enhancing the wellbeing of children and families in underserved communities.

While progress has been made, we acknowledge that many children still face significant challenges that require collective action, sustained investment and meaningful partnerships. Metropolitan remains committed to working alongside Government, development partners and communities to help create a Botswana where every child is protected, nurtured and empowered to reach their full potential.

Celebrating Africa, Living Our Heritage | Africa Day at Metropolitan Botswana

Africa Day at Metropolitan Botswana was more than a celebration, it was a powerful reflection of who we are as Africans and the heritage that unites us.

The celebration came alive 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐧, 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐲𝐞, 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞, with each team proudly showcasing what African Heritage means to them through culture, stories, language, food, and shared experiences.

Colleagues from Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe came together to share their traditions and what makes them proudly African. Conversations centred on our connection as African nations, how our cultures intertwine, how we relate, and how we are One Africa from the same Mother and Father.

Through cultural games, proverb translations, and learning from one another, we discovered that although our languages may differ, our values, wisdom, and sense of community remain deeply connected.

One of the day’s highlights was the exciting 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞, where teams tested their knowledge of African countries and won spot prizes. The celebration ended in true African style with a feast of African cuisine and vibrant ululations from the ladies, filling the room with pride and joy.

The occasion was ushered in by Mr. Sekonopo and concluded with an inspiring African Heritage address by Metropolitan Botswana CEO, 𝐌𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐠𝐨𝐩𝐚, who reflected on Metropolitan’s purpose of 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮.
