BOTSWANA STOCK EXCHANGE (BSE) HOSTS MINISTRY OF FINANCE PERMANENT SECRETARY, DR. TSHOKOLOGO ALEX KGANETSANO, FOR BOTSWANA MERCANTILE EXCHANGE (BMX) IMPLEMENTATION PROGRESS UPDATE MEETING & OFFICE TOURS
The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) this morning hosted the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Tshokologo Alex Kganetsano, for a Botswana Mercantile Exchange (BMX) implementation progress update meeting at the BSE Offices in Gaborone. Dr. Kganetsano was accompanied by Dr. Sayed Timuno, Secretary – Macroeconomics & Financial Policy at the Ministry of Finance. As part of the engagement, the delegation toured the newly established BMX offices to gain a first-hand appreciation of the infrastructure, systems and operational readiness supporting Botswana’s national commodities exchange.
During the meeting, Chairpersons of the BMX implementation workstreams provided comprehensive updates on progress made across Governance, Regulatory and Human Resources; Ecosystem and Market Development; Operations; Commercial and Financial Management; as well as Technology and Platforms. The delegation also received technical presentations and demonstrations covering key aspects of the BMX operating model, including trading, settlement and supporting technology platforms, highlighting the significant strides made towards establishing a transparent, efficient and globally competitive commodities marketplace for Botswana.
The engagement was hosted by BSE Group CEO, Mr. Aupa Monyatsi, and was also attended by Central Securities Depository of Botswana (CSDB) Board Member, Mr. Tebogo Mogaleemang, Acting CEO of the SEZA_Botswana, Ms. Tapiwa Masie, members of BSE Management, BMX staff and other key stakeholders. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss progress achieved to date, key areas requiring continued support, and the collective efforts being undertaken to position the Botswana Mercantile Exchange as a strategic platform for enhancing market efficiency, strengthening value chains, improving price discovery, facilitating trade and investment, and supporting Botswana’s broader economic transformation and diversification agenda.
