Know what ‘The Cooling Off Period’ is

This is the period during which you are entitled to cancel the policy without penalty. The cooling-off period starts when you receive your documents, or when the cover begins.

The insurance industry Act stipulates that ‘a policy may be cancelled by the policyholder within a period of three months from the date on which the proposal form was signed, or within one month of the receipt of the policy by the owner, whichever is later with an objection in writing to any term or condition of the policy or a statement that he does not require the policy.’

A refund of the premium already paid shall be made in this instance and a policy shall be cancelled forthwith. (see section 100 for life policy)
