CIPA - Companies and Intellectual Property Authority - Botswana CIPA's mandate is to register businesses and protect intellectual property rights.

The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) was established by an Act of Parliament in 2011. The Authority exists to promote and enable the rights of investors and rights holders obtained under the Companies Act, Registration of Business Names Act, Industrial Property Act and the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act. In simple terms, CIPA's mandate is to register businesses and protect intellectual property rights.

The Authority has been designated by the Financial Intelligence Act as a regulatory authority over company service providers / company secretaries, and in fulfilment of this mandate C**A will be commencing licensing of all company secretaries. Further consultation on this will be conducted with all company secretaries, the business community and all relevant stakeholders.
