University of Botswana Architectural students were privileged to visit the Bank of Botswana Headquarters in Gaborone for an insightful architectural and facilities tour.

This visit took considerable preparation, and we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Bosa Mochotlhi for her perseverance, coordination and commitment in ensuring that all the requirements for the visit were met.

The students were hosted on a guided tour by Architect Jasmina Telic together with the building’s Facilities Manager, giving them an opportunity to experience the building not only from an architectural perspective, but also through the lens of the people who manage and occupy the space.

A key highlight was learning about the sustainability principles incorporated into the building. As one of Botswana’s Green Star-rated buildings, the Bank of Botswana Headquarters provided the students with valuable insight into how sustainable design principles are translated into practice, how buildings comply with environmental standards, and how architectural decisions ultimately influence the end-user experience.

Experiences such as these help bridge the gap between what students learn in the classroom and how buildings function in the real world.

Over the past weekend, our Architect, Megan Kelosiwang, opened one of her projects to interested Architectural Professions and Students, providing an opportunity to visit the site, explore the design and construction process, and engage with the various technical challenges and solutions being implemented.

The house is currently in the final stages of completion and has undergone a major renovation, incorporating a range of sustainable and technologically advanced systems.

A special thank you to Megan and Priyanka for facilitating this site viewing and opening up the project for learning and professional engagement.

Initiatives such as these are valuable to our profession as they allow us to learn from real projects, share knowledge and experiences, and expose both professionals and students to different challenges, technologies and opportunities within the built environment.

Learning from one another is how we continue to grow our profession.

The AAB (Architects Association of Botswana) hosted a successful Annual General meeting Botswana (AAB) Annual General Meeting last week at Masa Protea Hotel, Gaborone.
