Recognizing that strategic partnerships remain essential to advancing SACCOs members financial wellbeing and building an inclusive and resilient economy.

Botswana Savings and Credit Cooperative Association we remain committed to strengthening and leveraging the SACCO business model in Botswana by empowering members with sustainable financial solutions while collaborating with like minded institutions such as the Botswana Stock Exchange.

Together, we can expand financial literacy, unlock investment opportunities and create lasting economic value for Batswana.

Strengthening Partnerships for Greater Financial Inclusion

Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) are a rapidly growing and increasingly important segment of Botswana's financial services sector, empowering members through savings, investment and access to affordable financial services.

The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) team met with Mrs. Kefilwe Masalila, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Savings and Credit Co-operative Association (BOSCA), the apex trade association and financial intermediary representing SACCOs across Botswana.

Our discussions focused on the evolving SACCO landscape, including recent regulatory developments, prudential requirements, product offerings, savings and investment practices, and the sector's critical role in advancing financial inclusion and supporting entrepreneurship.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to explore strategic areas of collaboration between the BSE and BOSCA. These include strengthening financial literacy among SACCO members, expanding participation by both members and SACCO institutions in Botswana's capital markets, and exploring opportunities for qualifying SACCOs to establish presence on the BSE through the BSE's Serala OTC Board.

The meeting marks the beginning of a promising partnership. Going forward, the BSE and BOSCA will work together to develop a collaborative framework that unlocks new opportunities, broadens investment participation, and contributes to the continued growth and resilience of Botswana's financial sector.

BOSCCA 2026 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

BOSCCA successfully convened its Annual General Meeting, marking yet another important milestone in the growth and strengthening of the Botswana SACCOs movement, attended by Financial cooperatives/SACCOs in Botswana that are affiliated to BOSCCA.

The AGM was honored by the presence of the African Confederation Of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations Executive Director, Mr. George Ombado (AADE,HSC,ICUDE)who delivered the keynote address and reaffirmed ACCOSCA’s unwavering commitment to supporting SACCO development across Africa.

Over the years, ACCOSCA has played a very instrumental role in the revitalization of the Botswana Savings and Credit Cooperative Association (BOSCCA), providing both technical and financial support towards rebuilding a strong apex body for SACCOs in Botswana.

Today, the results of this partnership are evident. BOSCCA has reclaimed its rightful place as the voice of financial cooperatives in Botswana, championing advocacy, strengthening governance and providing capacity-building and training programs to ensure SACCOs operate as professionally managed and financially sound institutions serving the interests of their members and advancing financial inclusion.

Ahead of the AGM, BOSCCA and ACCOSCA leadership also held high-level engagements with the Vice President of Botswana and also Minister of Finance, His Honour Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe. These engagements come at a critical time as SACCOs in Botswana have, since 2023, been regulated under the Ministry of Finance through the Bank of Botswana. BOSCCA and ACCOSCA continue to work closely with the regulator in developing a robust supervisory framework that will strengthen SACCOs as sustainable financial institutions promoting inclusive economic participation.

The leadership also paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Clerk of the National Assembly, further strengthening the strategic partnership that BOSCCA has built with the Botswana Parliament since 2025 in promoting financial wellbeing and advancing the SACCO business model in Botswana.

In his remarks during the AGM, Mr. Ombado commended the outgoing BOSCCA leadership for their resilience and dedication in revitalizing the association despite limited resources. He further applauded the association for earning regional and global recognition during this transformation journey, as ACCOSCA continues working with countries across Africa to empower lives through SACCOs.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected BOSCCA Board chaired by Thuto SACCO and comprising Maitlamo SACCO, Matlotlo SACCO, Babereki SACCO, Dikwata SACCO, Botswana Teachers SACCO,BPO SACCOs and Jwaneng SACCO.

We also sincerely commend the outgoing BOSCCA Board for its outstanding service, commitment and contribution towards rebuilding and strengthening the Botswana SACCOs movement.

And to our affiliate members, together, we continue building a stronger, inclusive and sustainable SACCO sector for Botswana.
