The Bahrain Bay development follows a distinctive and well-considered masterplan designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merril (SOM), an internationally renowned practice with over 65 years’ experience and a portfolio which includes over 10,000 projects in over 50 countries. The vision and planning process began in 2005 and the masterplan was completed in June 2006 with work starting on the development

a month later. The masterplan consists of an island connected to the mainland by two road bridges which create a spectacular central harbour for both leisure and commercial vessels. The island itself is modelled on concentric circles divided by two intersecting axes and a canal.
