🚢 Another Successful Marine Warranty Survey by DP SURVEY GROUP 🚢

We are proud to have completed another successful marine warranty survey for the safe loading and transport of four columns, each measuring 45 meters in length and weighing 150 metric tons.

The columns were carefully transported by inland vessel from Genk, Belgium to Nancy, France, followed by road transport to their final destination in Saint-Avold. Throughout the entire process, our surveyors ensured that all safety standards and compliance requirements were met, minimizing risks and safeguarding both the cargo and our client’s interests.
A great example of teamwork, precision, and expertise in action!

Our manager of Renewable Energy, Martin D. Valsted, participated in a delegation with our customer Vestas and their stakeholders, focusing on the external warehouse and port’s Q-HSE footprint in the fast-moving and dynamic region where components are manufactured and shipped from India.

In addition, it was great to see the new headquarters that was recently opened in Chennai and feel the vibes.

We would like to thank all the people and parties involved for some fantastic days and proactive and constructive dialogues and efforts, to ensure a safe and good work culture.

14 days of travel, 8 flights, 5 hotels, 4 cities (Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria for the Marine Forum, Cape Town), over 40 meetings with clients, prospects, and colleague surveyors, quite some of the finest steaks 😊 and, of course, last but definitely not least, our colleagues Danyal Liebenberg and Meshack Rasebopye, who gave an outstanding presentation at the Marine Insurance Forum!

It was a true honor and a great pleasure to (again) meet the market that has been and still is supporting DPS in international surveys and recoveries. On top of that, the clients’ belief in and trust in DPS South Africa is AMAZING, and continuous growth for DPS in SA and neighboring countries is now assured. We are here to stay!

Etienne Dacosta would like to tell you more a challenging case in Togo.

Amongst the thousands of claims the DPS Group handles every year, we came across a challenging case in Togo. We were entrusted with a case related to a lost/rejected container of SWAN TIMBER wood, originating from Togo and destined for the China market.

Our mission was to evaluate the physical condition of the wood and determine if it could be sold for salvage in order to mitigate the loss for our principals, the cargo insurers.

It is worth mentioning that the container had spent several months in transit at the port of Lomé, Togo, without being shipped to its intended destination in China.

This case presented several challenges, including the need to evaluate the condition of the wood after prolonged storage in the container, finding a buyer willing to purchase the cargo “as is, where is,” and negotiating a price that would mitigate the insurance company’s financial loss.

We quickly mobilized to assess the condition of the wood and devise a strategy for salvaging the container. Through our extensive salvage network, meticulous evaluation, and negotiation, we identified a potential Cameroonian buyer in August 2021 who agreed to buy the container at a very good price “where is, as is.”

By successfully selling the container at a reduced price, we effectively avoided a substantial financial loss for the insurance company, demonstrating our commitment to delivering tangible results for our clients. Additionally, we showcased our ability to find salvage buyers in another country, as the cargo was sold to a Cameroonian buyer who initially had no geographical connection to the shipment.

Through our dedication to excellence, professionalism, and proactive approach, we continue to set the standard for effective loss mitigation and damage survey operations in the insurance industry.

Our colleague, Ben Celis recently traveled to Constanța, Romania. Together with a delegation from Vestas, he evaluated multiple terminals to assess potential future operations at this strategic Black Sea hub.

The visit was a comprehensive mix of in-depth discussions, site visits, and reflections on past operations. This experience has provided invaluable insights that will help us enhance our future endeavors in the region.

We look forward to utilizing these learnings to drive our continued success and growth in the global market.

World Breakbulk Expo, short for WBX, is an international exhibition of the logistics & transportation industry, focusing on the theme of project cargo and traditional breakbulk, and is held in the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center (SWEECC) on 25-26th March 2024.

As an international platform for breakbulk industry, WBX connects cargo owners from various sectors (EPCs, industrial manufacturers, oil & gas, steel, mining, construction, etc.) who have cargo transportation needs and all kinds of logistics service providers (air, sea, road, rail, etc.), enabling buyers and sellers to talk with each other face-to-face, strengthen partnerships, and develop potential customers.

There were many freight forwarders, shipowners, traders and ports participated in this event, they are all participants in international trade, a lot of bulk and general cargo were transported in the whole word, so inspection/surveys as one of the links, plays a very important role.

Xiaofeng and Gary attended the exhibition and introduced the global network, service ability and strength of DPS to the exhibitors, and exchanged business cards. At the same time, some potential customers inquired about some specific details, Xiaofeng and Gary answered one by one, hoping that DPS can become a service provider for these global logistics and traders.
