On 4–5 December 2025, EUDY Vice-President Dominik Holiš and Secretary General Lubna Mehdi attended the European Day of Persons with Disabilities in Brussels, Belgium. 🇧🇪🇪🇺

The two-day conference was inspiring and offered many opportunities for networking and social interaction. We were especially happy to meet our former EUDY Board Member, Lucas Wild, who represents the EDF Youth Committee. It was wonderful to reconnect! 🤝💙

Throughout the conference, we engaged with various organisations and exchanged ideas about youth, accessibility, and disability rights.

The programme covered several important topics through panel discussions, including:
“The Next Chapter in Implementing the Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021–2030
“Funding the Union of Equality: Towards a Disability-Inclusive EU Budget”
“Preparedness and Crisis Management Inclusive of Persons with Disabilities”

On the last panel, Delphine le Marie, a Deaf representative from EUD, highlighted the urgent need for crisis information to be provided in visual formats, not only sound-based alerts — a crucial point for ensuring accessibility and safety for Deaf people.🧏💡

Take a look at our video interviewing Delphine, where she briefly reflects on her participation in the panel and explains the key points she raised. 👀🚨

We are already looking forward to the next European Day of Persons with Disabilities!

On 2 December 2025, EUDY Vice President Dominik Holiš and General Secretary Lubna Mehdi travelled to Brussels to attend EUD’s 40th anniversary celebration. 🇧🇪

The celebration began in the European Parliament with the launch of “A Signing Europe – 40 Years of Advocacy for Sign Language Rights.” There, we met participants from across Europe, including former EUD presidents, MEP Pál Szekeres, representatives from EDF and WFD, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, as well as Deaf leaders and representatives from national Deaf associations across Europe. 🎉✨

The programme included several powerful speeches delivered by EUD President Sofia Isari, MEP Pál Szekeres, former EUD President Markku Jokinen, and EUD Vice-President Ronit Laguerrière-Leven. All of them highlighted the same message: the importance of unity in Europe and the need to continue protecting sign language rights — perfectly aligned with the anniversary theme, “A Signing Europe.” 🤟💙

A panel discussion followed, focusing on reflections from the past 40 years and visions for the future. One of the key topics was artificial intelligence — how AI may impact sign languages and what must be done to protect and strengthen them. It was a highly interesting and thought-provoking conversation.
Later in the evening, a gala dinner took place, with a rich programme looking back on 40 years of achievements and memories. We also had the opportunity to network with many Deaf leaders — a meaningful and inspiring experience.

Congratulations to EUD on their 40th anniversary! We look forward to even closer cooperation in the future. 🇪🇺⭐️

The final board meeting of 2025 took place at our new office in Amsterdam. During our visit to the SWDA — the building where our office is located — we finally had the chance to see “our” space and make it a bit more youth-friendly. We are excited to hold more meetings there in the future! 🇳🇱✨

Our Youth Ambassador, Ifrah Ahmed Arale, joined us for the entire weekend and contributed fresh ideas and valuable input for the youth community. 🎉

We began with a board meeting focused on summarising the year, strategic planning, decision-making, and several important discussions. We continued the weekend with a workshop on organisational governance, inviting a representative from our dear partner, the European Union of the Deaf (EUD). The session was led by EUD Policy Manager Alexandre Bloxs, who shared practical insights, tips, and tools to strengthen our governance work and support the growth of our board and organisation. 🧠💡

We are grateful for our cooperation with EUD, which enables us to exchange knowledge and resources. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future! 🇪🇺🤝

Our first meeting took place in Amsterdam 🇳🇱🏢, at EUDY’s new office, and we are looking forward to sharing more about this project 🚀📚.

Stay tuned – we’ll be back with updates in January 👀!

✨ When Deaf young women come together, powerful things happen.

Youth Deaf workers from Czechia, Belgium, Latvia, Croatia, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, and The Netherlands gathered in Riga from 09 to 14 November for a week of connection, learning, and cross-border sisterhood. 💜

The session was led by Paula Bak, former EUDY vice president, and Maud Battle, member of EDYW, whose guidance and leadership created an inspiring and empowering space.

🌿 What’s included in the European Green Deal? It’s the EU’s plan to reach climate neutrality by 2050, turning ideas into real laws and actions for a fair, green future.

Here are five key plans:
🌳 Biodiversity Strategy - Create more natural habitats, strengthen organic farming, and plant 3 billion trees by 2030.
🥦 Farm to Fork - Build a sustainable food system with fewer pesticides and more organic farming (25% by 2030).
🏭 Industrial Strategy - Support climate-neutral industries producing electric cars, solar panels, and green tech.
🚆 Green Mobility - 1 million EV charging points by 2025 and a European high-speed train network.
🎓 Erasmus+ - Supports young people to gain green skills, including through the Deaf Climate Action project co-funded by Erasmus+.

🌍 The European Green Deal is the EU’s plan to tackle climate change together. By 2050, Europe aims to be climate-neutral, meaning carbon emissions equal carbon absorption. By 2030, CO₂ emissions must drop 55% compared to 1990. It focuses on energy, transport, nature, economy, and more. 🇪🇺💚

Climate Activism Camp in Ål, Norway ♻️🏕️

Deaf youth from Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France gathered at Ål Folkehøyskole to learn, share, and take action for a greener future. This camp empowered Deaf young people to become climate activists through accessible workshops, creative campaigns, and hands-on experiences on sustainability. 💚

Over the weekend of 4–6 October, Board Member Marino Atigia and Secretary General Lubna Mehdi represented EUDY at the European Youth Forum Academy 2025 in Mollina, Spain under the topic Rethinking Organisations and Cultures. 💬🌍

The programme offered three different learning paths; they participated in Path 2. These sessions explored how youth organisations across Europe can become stronger and more inclusive by focusing on brave spaces, psychological safety, conflict resolution, collaborative relationships, and a culture of feedback. 🙌

It was a great opportunity to socialise with other organisations, engage in open conversations, and collaborate. Networking was strong, learning was rich, and the overall atmosphere felt supportive and constructive. 🤝💙

We at EUDY will be diving deeper into some of these topics in a study session in May, individual applications will be welcome. Stay tuned for more info! 👀
