Season is upon us again. June 1st until November 30th is in the and although has been lucky over the years to be spared the wrath of a direct hit, that is no reason to be complacent. Take every precaution this hurricane season to keep you and your loved ones safe.

Here are 7 simple you can follow;
1) Know your . Confirm if the area you live has a high risk of flooding and ensure you have the appropriate insurance coverage.

2) Assemble an . A standard emergency kit should contain first aid supplies, a flashlight, extra batteries, 3 days worth of non perishable foods and water, towels (cloth and paper) and supplies of any medication. Also have a battery powered radio so you can keep informed in the event of a power outage. Also keep a small amount of cash since ATMs may be unserviceable.

3) Develop a family . Know how you will contact each other; how you will get back to each other if separated and what to do in different situations. Having a plan can eliminate a lot of stress and confusion.

4) Establish an . Before a storm, locate your closet emergency shelter. Identify the safest route there. Always make sure to confirm if they allow family pets.
