Did you know?
- One in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
- In 2024 alone, over 20,900 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
- The five-year survival rate for breast cancer is over 90%, which has improved significantly due to advancements in early detection and treatment.

For many people, the financial costs of cancer are a source of stress. It is important to understand that your private health insurance will likely cover only some of your costs, and you might be left with substantial out-of-pocket costs.

Trauma Insurance, also called ‘Critical Illness’ insurance, pays a lump sum amount if you suffer a critical illness or serious injury, including cancer. Trauma Insurance can help pay for:
- Out-of-pocket medical costs
- Living expenses for you and your family while you’re unable to work
- The cost of therapy, nursing care, and special transport
- Changes to housing if needed
- Paying back your debt – For example, a mortgage.

If you’re thinking about buying Trauma Insurance, give our friendly team a call for confidential advice – 02 5337 8333.

For general information on other Financial Support available for breast cancer treatment, contact the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 20.

Do you have a Help/HECS debt? 👨‍🎓

If your employer is not withholding enough PAYG-W to cover your compulsory repayment amount, you could end up with tax payable when you lodge your tax return.

It is your responsibility to mark the correct box on your Tax File Declaration at the beginning of employment, or to inform your current employer if you have undertaken separate study during the course of your employment.

Unfortunately, sometimes even if you have marked the correct box, your employers payroll still may not be withholding enough. You can check this yourself on your payslip, or alternatively speak to your employer/payroll department to ensure you are meeting your compulsory loan repayment obligations.
