Australia doesn’t have a housing demand problem AGAIN it has a SUPPLY PROBLEM!

Westpac chief executive Anthony Miller summed it up perfectly:
“The real challenge has to be: are we building enough houses at the right price point?”

The answer is clearly no.

Demand continues to substantially outweigh supply, yet governments remain focused on buyer-side schemes that increase people’s ability to purchase without addressing the shortage of homes available.

The government needs a laser-like focus on getting more homes built, faster approvals, essential infrastructure such as roads, water and sewerage, and practical assistance with rising construction and material costs.

Helping more people compete for the same limited number of properties will not solve housing affordability. We need to increase supply.

It sometimes feels like Albo, Chalmers and the other communists are the only people who still don’t realise the obvious: IT’S A SUPPLY PROBLEM!

Property prices will start rising again next year because of Australia’s chronic housing shortage, Westpac chief Anthony Miller has warned as he made a plea to the Albanese government.

This is a great summary from Carson Goh at BLG Business Advisors on the recent Federal Budget announcements, particularly the proposed reforms affecting businesses, trusts, and investors. Definitely worth a read for anyone wanting a clearer understanding of what may be ahead.

I especially liked the final thoughts from the article. While many of the proposed changes are significant, it is important to take a breath and not to overreact to headlines. Most major reforms are not expected to commence until 1 July 2027 or later, meaning there is still time to properly review structures, seek advice, and plan carefully.

A sensible and balanced perspective in what is currently a very noisy environment.
