Congratulations to Marcel de Kok as he steps into an expanded role within the Centrewest team as Client Director 👏

Marcel has been part of our wider team for nearly 15 years, beginning his journey with Australian Insurance Services (AIS) before joining Centrewest when the two businesses came together in 2016.

Over that time, Marcel has continued to grow his portfolio and take on additional client relationships through periods of transition across the business, while always being someone his colleagues can rely on.

A supportive manager and genuine team player, Marcel is also known for putting his hand up when there’s an opportunity to help - particularly when it comes to championing new IT systems and projects across the business.

This next step recognises the experience, commitment and contribution Marcel continues to bring to Centrewest and the people around him.

Congratulations, Marcel. We’re looking forward to seeing you continue to make an impact in this next chapter.

Amy and Jane both have a client injured on their premises. Same incident, same $180k legal claim but each had a very different outcome.

Most business owners assume an accident like this won't happen to them, until it does.

To our fellow insurance professionals: what's one public liability assumption you wish more business owners understood? Drop them below. 💬

The ACCC has released its final report on the cyclone reinsurance pool, and the results are a mixed picture for WA.

The good news: in the highest-risk areas, the pool is doing what it was designed to do. Average premiums in Karratha fell by 15 per cent, representing one of the largest reductions recorded nationally.

However, no new insurers have entered northern Australian markets since the pool commenced, while the average home and contents premium in northern Western Australia remains close to $5,000.

For businesses across the Pilbara and Gascoyne, this combination is important: premiums may be improving, but the insurance market remains limited.

In a challenging market, experienced broking advice becomes particularly valuable. Reviewing how cover is structured, understanding the factors influencing premiums and exploring the available market options can all help businesses make more informed insurance decisions.

If your business operates in a high cyclone-risk region and has not reviewed its cover recently, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Tool theft is one of the most common insurance claims for tradies in Australia.

Standard business contents insurance usually only protects tools kept at a fixed business premises.

If your tools travel with you in a ute, trailer or job site, that's a different type of cover, known as portable equipment / general property insurance.

Tradies, where do your tools spend most nights, workshop, ute, or somewhere in between? Let us know below. 💬

If your insurance renews within the next 90 days, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Starting the process early gives your broker more time to understand what has changed, review your current cover, prepare the information insurers need and explore the available options.

Consider whether your business has experienced changes to its:
▫️ Revenue or workforce
▫️ Assets or equipment
▫️ Contracts or services
▫️ Locations or operations
▫️ Claims history or risk profile

More time to review. More opportunity to explore the market. More time to negotiate.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our much-loved colleague, Shara Griffiths.

With the kind permission of her family, we wanted to share how much she meant to all of us at Centrewest.

A colleague you could always count on, and a friend to so many of us, Shara was part of the Centrewest family for 10 years, and spent more than 20 years in the insurance industry.

Shara had a way of making any room feel brighter just by being in it, and brought warmth, laughter and genuine care to our workplace every day. She had one of the biggest hearts, a wonderfully wild sense of humour and a collection of quirky sayings that were uniquely hers.

That same care extended to her clients. Shara always went above and beyond, giving generously of her time and doing everything she could to support the people she worked with.

She made those around her feel welcome, valued and cared for, and left a lasting impression on so many people throughout her life and career.

She was a beautiful person, a treasured colleague and friend, and she will be profoundly missed by all of us at Centrewest.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Shara's husband, family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance is often misunderstood as cover for making a mistake.

However, it also covers you when a client alleges that you did, whether or not the allegation is true. Defending a claim costs time and money before anything is proven either way, and those costs can add up quickly.

Healthcare practitioners, engineers, architects, accountants, advisers and legal specialists are especially exposed. Their work is judgement-based, which means disagreements over outcomes can turn into disputes even when the advice was sound.

When did you last review whether your PI cover still reflects the work you do? 💭
